A star-studded night indeed, on 24 February at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the 85th edition of the Oscars.
On the reddest carpet there is, at the biggest event of all, a parade of stars in fabulous outfits, priceless jewels and stunning footwear. As always, the ceremony itself and the parties following it constituted the ultimate stage for showing off ultra-glamorous elegance. And here the winners were… the style champions.
“Dreams can come true”, confirmed Anne Hathaway in her acceptance speech after winning the Best Supporting Actress statuette for her performance in “Les Miserables”. And she too looked a dream, confident and smiling in an elegant wisteria-coloured dress completed by sophisticated silver satin sandals made for her by Giuseppe Zanotti.
A total black look, on the other hand, for Salma Hayek. Elegant satin court shoes teasingly peeping from the rear vent of her long figure-hugging dress provided just the right dose of swish to the actress’s outfit.
The exquisite Stacey Keibler appeared swathed in metallic swirls. Her breathtaking anthracite dress went perfectly with the black patent-leather sandals imagined and created by the Italian designer. Deceptively simple.
Jennifer Hudson, meanwhile, chose multiple variations of blue for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. “Midnight” for her dress, “metallic” for her clutch bag, and “electric-python” for her open toe sandals by Giuseppe Zanotti Design.
Another style-choice that ran no risk of passing unobserved was Jennifer Lawrence’s outfit for the Film Independent Spirit Awards the day before, in Santa Monica. A play on different lengths, with a short dress worn in tandem with black leather sandals and silver plaques.
Not only the Oscars, therefore… On 20 February, for instance, the red carpet at the Brit Awards was a great warm-up for the big one, especially thanks to Rita Ora and Jourdan Dunn. “Invisible” platforms and “animal bone” gilded metal details on the sandals worn by the former, a play between interwoven thongs and golden plaques for the model chosen by the latter.
